At 75 years old the average human being would consider themselves to be in the autumn years of life perhaps reminiscing of years gone by with thoughts of contentment as they review life accomplishments and accolades or regret pondering the what should have, could have or would have been if only… There is much to consider as we look at the life of Father Abram as he is instructed of the Lord to leave his father’s house to begin a journey thwart with the unknown. So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. Genesis 12v4. We can only surmise from our own perspective what would have gone through the mind of this age rich yet warn individual. However despite what he might have thought with his mind the spirit of God within him had the final say and off he went. All too often the label we receive from society is filled with limitations of time, money and restricted vision yet in Christ we are told we can do all things as He is the one that strengthen us. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4v13
When Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay joined forces and decided to take on Mount Everest I dare say loves ones and family members had misgivings on such an escapade, yet still they did not relent, maybe there was a climbing spirit shut up in their bones that had to come out, either way all three men followed their inner man to do what had never been done before, granted Abram had some 50 years on Edmund who was around 34 years old when he embarked on his quest yet still all three went on to achieve exploits that are still mentioned today.
The faithfulness of God and Abram’s trust in him is to be recognised for as Abram packs up his lot stock and barrel wife and kin to head off to Canaan the Lord meets him there and speaks a promise to his unborn children which prompt Abram to build an altar of praise to the Lord .Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. Genesis 12:7-8 NKJV Difficulties and impossibilities are merely a view point dependent on its foundation, if we want to do something badly enough we will find a way, how much more we are the descendants that God was speaking about to Abram, as a believer we have a responsibility to accomplish great and mighty things, scripture references are endless but I will say one thing if you don’t try you will fail, it not where you start…
You may need to rest, you may need to restart or even remind yourself of the dream within that has been long buried but don’t give up don’t give in, Abram’s journey from Haran to Shechem was by no means easy yet it was at the land mark referred to as the ‘great tree of Moreh’ that God appeared to him, the tree being significant and a reminder that God is our shield and shade, this particular tree is known for its broad extensive branches and its dark green foliage thus reminding us of yet another promise through the Prophet Isaiah It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. Isaiah 4v6.
Throughout Abram’s pilgrimage he erects four monumental altars to the Lord, Altar of Praise, Altar of Prayer, Altar of Peace and an Altar of provision, and whilst we are not required to build literal altars today it would be prudent to consider these altar in prayer and ask God to rebuild our dreams and desires for it’s never too late. Eccl 9v11 clearly reminds us that time and chance comes to us all. I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favour to the learned, but time and chance happen to them all. Eccl 9v11
When all seems impossible offer praise with your prayers and see your breakthrough, Abram was in enemy territory yet he did not see what he saw he heard what God said, the ground he stood on was given to him for his off-spring, a future generation, that’s you and I folks. Where Abram started and where he finished was a place far beyond his own expectations or ability but as we know he who started a good work in us will see it through to perfect, God doesn’t change, He is the same yesterday today and forever, however it looks now, as you praise God he will change your paradigm so that you see possibilities not impossibilities, and as he does so your peace will be still within so you can possess your possession and provisions and fulfil God’s mandate for your lift whilst here on earth to His glory.
